advocating for the implementation of best practices in autism treatment, education and services from early intervention through adult care. |
 |
Social Worker
The Social worker will operate in a variety of settings. In serving
as the “Navigator”, she will act as a guide through the center’s
services and other organizations.
|
|
Behavioral Therapist
Many autistic children lose the ability to learn by observation
instinctively as other children do. Our Board Certified Behavior
Analyst works to teach these children how to learn and overcome
undesirable behaviors.
|
|
Speech Therapist
Though some autistic children have little or no problem with the
pronunciation of words, most have difficulty effectively using
language pragmatically such as knowing what to say, how to say it,
and when to say it. Many often say things that have no content or
information, repeat verbatim what they have heard (echolalia) or
repeat irrelevant scripts they have memorized. Some speak in a
high-pitched voice or use robotic sounding speech. Speech Therapy
can teach them how to use language effectively.

 |
Occupational and Physical Therapists
Through occupational and physical therapy methods, a person with
autism can be aided in
learning activities such as dressing, feeding, toilet training,
grooming, social skills, fine motor and visual skills that assist in
writing and scissor use, gross motor
coordination to help the individual ride a bike or walk properly,
and visual perceptual skills needed for reading and writing.

|
Nutritionist
A health specialist, educated in nutrition and dietary management
will counsel individuals and their families on nutritional practices
designed to prevent disease and promote health. Our nutritionist
experienced with autism and current on
gluten, casein and other food intolerances.

|
Equine and Music Therapies
These approaches have shown to be effective in reaching children
with autism. Many show a change in mood swings, while
developing motor skills. Improvements with tactile and audio sensory
integration are beneficial as well.

Advocacy
What are the legal rights for your autistic child? As a parent?
Fortunately there are laws to protect at school and employment.
There are also organizations to get legal help you
need. The SCCA can help you find answers.

|
Counseling
Family counseling includes support for parents, caregivers,
siblings, and other family
members. With the added factor of autism in the home come many more
challenges for couples and families.
|
|
Support
The group believes that amongst the exchange of experiences and
information in a light hearted atmosphere we can improve the lives
of individuals with autism, while providing families with the
support that
is needed through our monthly meetings.
