Meet
our new staff member:
Karen Prigger, B.A.,
Family Care
Advisor
Karen Prigger
is a licensed and board certified Special Education Teacher
whose training and experience have included specializations in
Curriculum Development, Case Management, IEP Development and
Advocacy for the past twenty-seven years. She was also one of
the first pioneers in creating authentic inclusion practices
in Salem County.
Following her
accomplishment of receiving a degree and certification as
Teacher of the Handicapped, Karen completed a certification
through Rutgers University in teaching Science for Special
Education Students, numerous certifications in Language Arts
and Literacy Centers at the Academy of the Arts in Fort Myers,
Florida where she also received Elementary Certification for
Grades K-6.
It was in Penns
Grove that Karen met her husband, Jack, a Physical Education
teacher/Football Coach, and had their three children who are
now grown. Karen loves summertime with her favorite activities
including boating, boogie boarding, and snorkeling in the
Keys. She is an avid reader. Karen also enjoys dabbling in the
culinary arts.
Karen’s passion
and commitment has always been to raise awareness for children
with special needs-that all people with disabilities should be
given same opportunities as everyone else; promoting equality
amongst all people. To quote Temple Grandin, people with
autism are “Different. Not less.”
Karen believes
that God has given her a life-long mission to improve lives by
leveling the playing field. “He [God] closed the door on
classroom teaching and gave me the opportunity to learn about
behavior analysis and work specifically in the field of
Autism. Part of that mission includes working with parents,
giving support and a voice where there is none or no one is
listening.” Currently, Karen is completing her BCABA
certification and is excited to be specialized as one of few
who are Highly Qualified in Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Through the
center, Karen will be working with parents directly providing
encouragement, resources and information, overseeing case
management services, advocating, and facilitating the ANSWER
Group support group. If you have questions about advocacy or
services provided by the SCCA, please feel free to contact
Karen Prigger at 856.678.9400 or at
